WhatsApp working on restoring chat history via Google Drive: Report

There is some good news for WhatsApp users who frequently keep changing their smartphones. WhatsApp is reportedly working on creating a way for users to backup and restore chat history via Google Drive across Android devices.
According to screenshots received by Android Police, it appears that the functions involved are for backing up a user’s chat history as well as media but not videos. This feature can be restricted to Wi-Fi only or can be used over cellular networks too. Detailed sets of images have been spotted on Droidapp.nl as well who also received this tip.

The translation string also points out that the feature is offered to users when they log into a new device. It also added that if a user does not accept, they will lose their backup from their older device. There is no information about the roll out for this feature nor any given time frame.
Currently, Android users can backup their messages by simply going to the app’s Menu > Settings > Chat settings. Users will then have to check whether the folder is located on the phone memory or microSD card. iOS users can backup and restore their chat history via iCloud.
