Sometimes being portable is more important than carrying a proper camera mount or tripod, so Instructables user corybschneider
came up with a stable, secure mount that's adaptable, mounts anywhere,
and can be used with one hand. All you need is a clamp and some assorted
screws and nuts.
It may look
a little unsteady, but the end product is pretty solid. The clamp
serves to keep your camera in position wherever you place it, and the
double brackets, joined by a few screws and nuts, gives you the
flexibility to position your camera in any direction. This particular
walkthrough is designed to use a camera's standard screw mount, and if
you don't like the look of the double-arm there in the center, you can
always adapt the mount so there's a single screw.
Perhaps
best of all, you can make the mount from items you probably have easily
available, either in the garage or with a quick trip to the hardware
store. You won't need special tools either beyond a drill, a
screwdriver, and ideally a good rotary tool.
When you're all finished, you'll have a camera mount that can support
most medium-weight cameras and lenses, and can be mounted just about
anywhere a clamp can be securely fastened (which is a lot of places.)
