Update: Microsoft’s Build 2015 Developer Conference Sold Out In Less Than An Hour

Microsoft’s annual Build developer conference is happening in San Francisco from April 29 to May 1 this year. Registration opened at 9am PT this morning and the event sold out in less than an hour. That’s not all that unusual for Build, but demand may have been even higher this year, given the company’s reveal of its HoloLens augmented reality hardware yesterday. If you still want to give it a try, you can now join the registration waitlist.
Full price tickets to Build are $2,095. Microsoft also offers discounted tickets for academics (just under $1,000) and makes a limited number of free tickets available for full-time students. At last year’s event, Microsoft gave all attendees a free Xbox One and a $500 Microsoft Store gift card.
Judging from today’s announcement, the focus of the event will be squarely on Windows 10, which is expected to launch later this year. The Windows 10 Technical Preview is scheduled to expire on April 15, so chances are we will see the first release candidate at Build.
Microsoft’s chief evangelist Steve Guggenheimer also promises news around the company’s other core technologies. “This year’s Build will lay a path to productive and creative development on the Microsoft Platform, showcasing the latest tools and technologies that will power your unique journey,” he wrote earlier today.

At last year’s event, Microsoft announced its latest Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 updates. Build 2014 also marked the launch of Cortana, Microsoft’s Siri and Google Now competitor, and Microsoft used the event to tease both the return of the Start Menu and its touch-friendly Office apps — both of which will now arrive with Windows 10. Microsoft also launched a number of new .NET initiatives at the event, as well as updates to its Azure cloud computing platform.
